In this work the detailed steps associated to the design, simulation and development of a didactic high voltage equipment are presented. The equipment allows the generation and measurement of alternate and direct high voltages, being used in the experimentation of electric discharges in gases. Along with different sets of electrodes and a pressure chamber, different parameters such as gas pressure, electric field distribution, distance and layout of electrodes can be altered, aiding in the assimilation of electrical engineering and high voltage themes, e.g. Paschen Law, Townsend Discharge and Jacob's Ladder. The development of the equipment was carried out mainly by undergraduate students, who employed materials commonly found in hardware or electro-electronic stores. The project itself, besides involving many engineering concepts, aids in the formation of future engineers in the institution, providing practical experimentation to courses that until then were completely theoretical.
